One Day At A Time With Jesus

Matthew 6:11
"Give us this day our daily bread."

The secret to abundant spiritual life is to live one day at a time with the Lord. Why? Well, when you live this way you're not focused on passed failures, and you're not worrying about your future.

When Jesus was teaching His disciples the principles of prayer He said, "Give us this day our daily bread," not for tomorrow, the rest of the week, month, or year, but for this day. God wants us to trust Him one day at a time.

If you're focused on your past mistakes you're not trusting God's ability to forgive and cleanse you from them. If you're worrying about your future you're not trusting God to take care of you. Either way you're not trusting God and you're missing out on God's richest spiritual blessings.

Living one day at a time with Jesus requires faith in a loving benevolent God. Jesus said in Matthew 6:34, "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." There you have it from Jesus's own lips, worrying about tomorrow is not good for us.

So what are we to do each day if we are to only trust God for that day? Walking in the Spirit and seeking God's kingdom on a daily basis would be a good start. In fact I would say this is our primary duty as Christians.

God has the plan, and He will give you a vision for your future, but you have to walk it out on a daily basis, trusting Him to take care of you and bring that future vision to pass. So how do you trust Him daily?

It starts with thinking about the right things. Paul writes, 'Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don’t ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise.' Philippians 4:8. (CEV)

Where do you find pure and lovely things to think about? Well, it ain't at the movies, at a bar, or on television. You'll only find these things in God's Word; you'll only find these things among Christians who get into the word every day.

Dear reader it's your duty as a Christian, to read, study, meditate, and fill your mind with God's Word every day. It's your privilege to spend time seeking God in prayer each and every day. This is living one day at a time with Jesus.

Have a blessed day
Paul
