'...The words I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.'
One thing you'll hear frequently from unbelievers is that the bible is not relevant for today. They reason that the bible was written to a generation of long ago, therefore, it has no relevance for today's 'modern generation.'
What these people fail to understand is the supernatural origins of the bible. This powerful road map to Godly living transcends time because it has been authored by The One who can not be held by time, the Holy Spirit; praise the Lord!
Hebrews 4:12 says this about the word: ' For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.'
Our bible is not irrelevant it's living, active, and powerful! The bible can speak to every situation in our modern day lives. The question is, are you reading your bible everyday? The greatest investment you can make in yourself, as a Christian, is reading the bible.
Jesus said in Matthew 4:4: "... It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." I'm sure if the bible is not relevant for today Jesus would not have said this.
God's word will energize your spirit, be a lamp unto your feet, and light unto your path. Jeremiah said this about God's word: "Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart, Jeremiah 15:16.
Is the word of God a joy unto your heart dear reader? Here's how to develop a love for scripture:
1) You must make a decision to establish bible reading as one of your daily priorities.
2) Understand that you have a duty to feed your spirit with the word of God to grow and stay strong.
3) Stop being a casual reader and get serious with God; become a committed student of the word.
One final thought: The bible is a supernatural book, therefore it can only be understood supernaturally. It is the Holy Spirit that gives life to scripture, so look to Him to give you fresh insight in His word today.
