1 Samuel 30:6
'...but David encouraged himself in the Lord His God.'
There are times in our lives when everything seems to be falling apart on a grand scale. No matter what you do to try to make things right it only gets worse, leaving you feeling greatly bewildered and distressed.
Well take heart dear reader because there is always hope in God, even when you think there is no way out, and no answer at all on the horizon. God has an exiting plan of deliverance for you no matter what you're facing today. I wonder if your situation is as bad as King David's?
King David and his loyal band of warriors returned to his home in Ziklag expecting to be reunited with their family and friends. However, what greeted them was a city in ruins and their wives and children taken.
'Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag...there it was, burned with fire; and their, wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive,' 1 Samuel 30:1-3. Can you imagine this gut wrenching scenario? You come home to find your city burned and your family taken captive, possibly never to be seen again.
To top it all off, David's own men blamed him for what had happened and wanted to stone him!
'Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him...' 1 Samuel 30:6. Imagine that, your own friends want to kill you!
What did David do? 'Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him...But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God,' 1 Samuel 30:6. He encouraged (strengthened) himself in the Lord, that's the key. Understanding this will set you completely free from every form of distress and depression brought about by evil circumstances.
How do you encourage yourself in the Lord? If you know anything about King David you'll know that he was a psalmist. He would recite God's word in song; he would meditate on scripture; he would ponder over God's precepts.
'I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles. Your awe-inspiring deeds will be on every tongue; I will proclaim your greatness...The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. The Lord is good to everyone, He showers compassion on all his creation,' Psalm 145:5-9.
What trouble are you facing today dear reader? Encourage yourself in the Lord! Read His word; meditate on His goodness, and know that He has a plan of deliverance for you. Listen to praise and worship; listen to uplifting preaching; Google testimonies of God's goodness; your soul will be lifted, and your spirit refreshed.
Do these things and I can guarantee you, based on His word, that God will set you free from all your distress, depression, and anxieties. Not only that, He will also deliver you from your trial if you'll keep yourself encouraged in the Lord. Stay focused on Him and trust Him to work in your situation; watch and be amazed; praise Him at all times, amen!
Have a blessed day
