Jesus Said, "You Must Forgive"

Colossians 3:13
'...The Lord forgave you, so you must forgive.'

When Jesus was pouring out His innocent blood on calvary's cross, He prayed an astonishing prayer. “...Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Luke 23:34. Wow! if anyone ever had reason not to forgive it was Jesus, yet here He prays for those who had just nailed His hands and feet to the cross.

This prayer came from a heart aflame with love for humanity. Jesus could have summoned a legion of angels that day but He chose the way of love, He chose to forgive. He chose to forgive those who jeered and spat at Him; He chose to forgive those who drove the nails into His flesh, and He chose to forgive all who mocked and scorned Him that day.

What about you dear reader, do you truly understand that when Jesus hung on that cross He did it to forgive you as well? Meditate on that for moment. When you have a revelation of how much God has forgiven you, it becomes easier to forgive others their sins against you.

It goes really hard for those who choose not to forgive, why? Well, because they're out of line with God's will. Paul writes, 'Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you,' Ephesians 4:32

Jesus said in Matthew 6:15, " But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." This is a strong word, but it is the truth nonetheless. You can forgive the most painful experiences because Christ has forgiven you, and will continue to forgive you whenever you need it.

Do you want to be more like Jesus? then forgive; do you want to be well pleasing to your heavenly Father? forgive; do you want deeper intimacy with the Holy Spirit? forgive. Walking in forgiveness brings the blessing of God. Matthew 5:9 says, “Blessed [spiritually calm with life-joy in God’s favor] are the makers and maintainers of peace, for they will [express His character and] be called the sons of God," (amp).

Walking in forgiveness towards others is how the children of God make and maintain peace with their neighbor. Because Jesus has a forgiving heart, as a born again believers we also have forgiving hearts. Now it might not feel like you have a forgiving heart right now but it's in there, you just need to wake it up. How? by making a conscious decision, through prayer, to forgive.

Ask God to help you to forgive the person who has hurt you, He will help! There is incredible power in the words, 'I forgive you; I love you; lets move on. Is there anyone in your life right now that needs to be assured of your forgiveness? If so, get to it and forgive them!

Maybe the person who hurt you is no longer in this world; don't let that stop you, you can still forgive them. Take it to God in prayer and forgive that person; be obedient to God's Word today and be blessed.

Have a blessed day
