Dealing With Temptation (3) Removing The Sources

Genesis 39:12
'...she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.'
The bible says, '...Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.” But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master...has committed all that he has to my then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” So it was, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her, to lie with her or to be with her. But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house was inside,  that she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.' Genesis 39:6-12

I want you to notice five things about this story of Joseph's temptation:

1) Joseph's temptation always happened when he was around a certain person: Potiphar's wife.

2) Joseph's temptation kept happening when he was in a certain place: Potiphar's house.

3) For Joseph, being around Potiphar's wife and being in his house meant daily pressure to sin.

4) Joseph did not run because he was weak, but because he was wise.

5) Joseph understood that if you stay to close for to long around temptation, you're going to get burned. Paul writes, 'Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body,' 1 Corinthians 6:18.

Dear reader, what people and places do you need to avoid? What person arouses your flesh? Is there a certain place where you always feel temptation nipping at your heals? What sources of temptation do you need to remove from your life in order to live victoriously?

These are questions that you need to ask yourself honestly; your spiritual life may depend on how you answer and what you do about them! If you're not sure then ask your heavenly Father to show you. James writes, 'If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him,' James 1:5.

So go ahead and pray believing that God will show you, and remember this dear reader: God wants you to live in victory more than you do! So obey His Word and run if you have to; there is no dishonor in running from temptation, but you may become dishonored if you don't.

Have a blessed day
